Mills 2.4

The Mills 2.4 was the only Mills model diesel not to feature sideport induction, relying instead upon disc rear rotary valve induction. It was introduced in September 1948 but was not a commercial success, only remaining on offer until June 1951, although actual production had probably ceased somewhat earlier. This seems to have been due primarily to the Mills 2.4 design being overtaken relatively quickly by more up-to-date models such as the Elfin 249 and the FROG 250. Total production seems to have been around 3,000 to 3,500 examples - a very low total by Mills standards. The full story of the Mills 2.4 may be found elsewhere on this website, along with a comparative test of an original example and a later replica.
