Russian tether car book, 1980

This Russian-language handbook entitled “ПОСОБИЕ ДЛЯ АВТОМОДЕЛИСТОВ” (Car Modeller’s Manual) was written by E. M. Gusev and M. S. Osipov. It was published in 1980 under the auspices of DOSAAF, the organization responsible for the promotion of all branches of the modelling hobby in the former Soviet Union.

The 142-page book covers all aspects of competitive car modelling as it then stood, the emphasis being on tether car racing which was being strongly promoted by DOSAAF at the time in question. A significant proportion of the contents relates to the selection, preparation (including modifications) and management of the engines.

Copies of this book appear to be in short supply outside the borders of the former USSR, but they do occasionally show up on offer from sources in that area. Anyone interested in the development of tether car racing will find this book to represent an interesting snapshot of the state of this branch of the hobby as of 1980 in the Soviet sphere of influence. Using present-day OCR and translation technology, its contents are readily accessible to readers from all over the world.
