MOVO D-2 diesel

The MOVO D-2 was a 2 cc long-stroke sideport diesel engine manufactured in Milan, Italy. Designed and first released in late 1944, it was among the first Italian model diesels to enter quantity production.

Much of the MOVO's success resulted from the fact that a number of examples were brought back to the USA by returning servicemen following the conclusion of WW2. This created a great deal of American interest in the engine, resulting in its being imported to the USA in substantial numbers by several US firms, including Polk's Hobbies.

The MOVO was very well made, also starting and running very nicely indeed. It wasn't all that powerful, but it did perform very dependably, hence gaining a solid reputation. It seems to have strongly influenced the design of the infamous Deezil, the original examples of which were far better engines than their later reputation would suggest. The MOVO remained on offer until early 1949, but was unable to survive either the late 1947 introduction of the glow-plug or the appearance of updated diesels having greatly superior performances.

A detailed review and test of the MOVO D-2 may be found elsewhere on this website.
