P.A.W. diesels
The famous P.A.W. model diesel range has been commercially manufactured in Macclesfield in Cheshire, England since 1957. Their designer was J. G. "Gig" Eifflaender (1922-2005), a well-known practical aeromodeller who had achieved great competition success using models powered by his own self-constructed engines.
Eifflaender's first commercial product was the P.A.W. Eifflaender Special 2.5 cc diesel of mid 1957. This was followed by a 1.5 cc model of generally similar design. Both of these engines achieved considerable popularity on the basis of their quality and performance at a reasonable price.
Other designs soon followed, including an updated Mk. III version of the 2.5 cc model as well as several variants of a 3.2 cc offering designed specifically for control line combat. The introduction of a squish head in the 1966 P.A.W. 249 Mk. IV completed the evolution of the basic P.A.W. design.
A detailed article setting out the history of the P.A.W. range up to the mid 1960's may be found elsewhere on this website. The P.A.W. company continues to produce high-quality model diesel engines today (2023). Check out their very informative website for details.
