Atom diesels (Czech)

The Atom engines were among the first diesels to enter series production in Czechoslovakia (as Czechia was then) in the immediate aftermath of WW2. The first Atom model was introduced in late 1945, to be followed by a series of design variants over the next 5 years or so. That initial Atom model was designed primarily by Vladislav Hruška and manufactured with the assistance of J. Choc, who later left the partnership, leaving Hruška to carry on by himself.

The Atom diesels were well-made and dependable powerplants having a good performance by the standards of the day. They were very well received by the modelling public, in all probability becoming the most widely-used engines in Czechoslovakia for some years. The Atom was one of the first Czech engines to become widely recognized outside its native country, being featured as the plan engine on the plan of B. Pilar's "Kapitán" model which was published in the English “Aeromodeller” magazine, along with a very positive assessment of both engine and model.

The full start-to-finish story of the Atom diesels and their descendants may be found elsewhere on this website.
