Atomatic diesels

The Atomatic series of model diesels was produced by Uberto Travalgi of Rome between 1944 and 1948. Following some early experiments with sideport induction, Travalgo devised a unique form of front rotary disc valved diesel featuring a carburettor located inside the front tank which surrounded the main bearing. These engines were beautifully made and performed very well by the standards of their day. They were produced in a number of different displacements.

In general terms, the styling of the Travalgi engines clearly owed much to the arrangement of the earlier Antares diesels made by Elios Vantini of Padova. This influence may be explained by the fact that Travalgi had been an Antares distributor beginning in 1942. One of his designs, an FRV model, was actually designated as the "Super Antares", clearly with Vantini's permission.

A detailed article recounting the history of the Atomatic engines will appear on this website in due course.
