Miles Special

The 5 cc Miles Special diesel was marketed by Electronic Developments (E.D.) Ltd. between early 1953 and  late 1958. It appeared in two major variants, also being offered in glow-plug configuration. However, this engine was not an E.D. product at all for the most part! Rather, it was constructed in relatively small numbers by its designer, the celebrated Basil Miles. Its design was strongly influenced by that of Miles' iconic 2.5 cc E.D. Racer. It was a very solid performer by the standards of its day.

E.D.’s involvement with the Miles Special was limited to the manufacture of some of the components and the promotion and marketing of the finished engines under the E.D. trade-name. All of the engines were assembled and tested by Miles in his own workshop.
