M.E. range

The M.E. range of model diesel engines was manufactured on the Isle of Man (IOM) between 1960 and approximately 1979. The range was established by Walter Kendall, who had previously worked for Davies-Charlton Ltd. from the early days through to their relocation to the IOM in 1955.

The M.E range consisted of the 1 cc Heron and the 1.5 cc Snipe in both aero and marine versions. An R/C version of the Snipe was also offered. It seems that as time went by Walter Kendall became more interested in expanding into other fields than in extending the M.E. series, because these were the only models ever produced. In the end he was evidently glad to pass the range along to others.

The engines in this series were extremely well made and handled very easily, with quite acceptable "sports" levels of performance. During the 1960's they were made by Kendall's Marown Engineering company, but were later produced by Moore Engineering and later still by Mayglen Engineering, both still on the IOM. The range disappeared at some indeterminate point in the late 1970's as the market for small sports diesels progressively dried up.

A detailed account of the M.E. range may be found elsewhere on this website.
